Edenton Steamers to Kick-off Home Opener on June 2nd

Edentonians and visitors alike eagerly await the Steamers’ summer collegiate baseball season. Home games crank up for a weekend chock-full of excitement. Going to a game is a fun family event and an enjoyable experience for sports fans of all ages. For some avid supporters, a Steamers’ game is the main social event.

Locals can meet the roster of talented players at the ballpark on Wednesday, May 31st at the FREE Fan Fest event prior to the home opener. Fans can welcome players to Edenton, get autographs, and play cornhole at the ballpark. Courtney Phelps, the team’s athletic trainer comments on this year’s team,
“players represent programs across the country, but we have several local players who are playing college ball at Pitt, Duke, and Mt. Olive.”

The Steamers’ baseball schedule cranks into full gear with Friday’s Family Night home game on June 2nd against the Tarboro River Bandits at the historic Hicks field. Enjoy a slice of history in the original wooden grandstand circa 1939 while watching the action, munching on hot donuts, and sticking around for the fireworks show. Doors open at 6pm though it pays to be early, as the first 500 fans will receive magnetic schedules. Mascots Sam the Clam and Pam the Clam will be on hand for photography and fun for all ages.

Going to an Edenton Steamers game is all about the atmosphere, community identity, and unity. General Manager Tyler Russell remarks about this upcoming season, “It is great to give the town something to get excited about. We are making a run for back-to-back championships. Our games are affordable for families and offer an inclusive setting.” Admission into home baseball games is $5 per ticket. Advance tickets can be purchased online using an app to avoid lines at the booth.

In addition to the play action, concessions and the beer garden are highlights of the home game experience. Ballgame fare of burgers, hot dogs, Italian sausage, and chicken sandwiches can be purchased at the concession stand. Russell recommends the ribeye steak sandwich, the newest item on the menu. The beer garden provides adult beverages such as craft beers and wine.

Looking for a date night or Girls night out? On June 3rd the home game against Clayton Clovers boosts Sippin’ Saturday specials on craft beer and wine, as well as giveaways of poster schedules to the first 250 fans through the door. Phelps remarks, “our ballpark is unique, and the atmosphere is just cool. Everyone is friendly and gets together to socialize.”
