Discovering Ancient Artifacts in Northeastern North Carolina

In a follow-up article to Chowan River Ramblings by Robert (Bob) Forbes, he wanted to share additional information concerning his interest in Native American artifacts in the Chowan River area.

He is asking for information concerning any found Native American artifacts in or around the Chowan River. If so, I’d like to see photos of the same, along with the location of the finding if you want to share that information, you can contact him at rhforbesjr@gmail.com. Here is a photo of some of the artifacts he has found on his family farm near the Tar River; the penny is for size reference.

Archaeologists, hobbyists, and professionals in North Carolina have made a remarkable discovery of Indian and the first European settler artifacts over the years, shedding new light on the history of Indigenous people and the first Europeans who settled in the area. Read about the recent exciting find of a 1,000-year-old Indian canoe in Lake Waccamaw in southeastern NC near Willmington NC, or new information concerning the Lost Colony discoveries in Bertie County, on the banks of the Chowan River.

Related to the Lost Colony work, a few Edenton residents assisted the First Colony Foundation in the discovery highlighted in the National Geographic article link about the Lost Colony.
